Doomsday of UAC was the first fan-made WAD that John Romero, co-creator of Doom, thought was «really cool».

Title: Doomsday Of UAC Game: Doom
Filename: UAC_DEAD.ZIP Size: 152k
Author: Leon Martin Lim e-mail: [email protected]
Maps: E1M8 Type: normal level
Sounds: no
Graphics: sky
Music: no
[ Level construction ] ----------------------------------------------
Large level with a lot of large rooms, hallways and a courtyard.
(starting point) This level is kinda old, built in summer 94, but
has a few nice features, such as invisible stairs. Another nice
thing is the end, sitting in a space-shuttle you will press the end
switch to start the engine. Very nice little ideas sich as wheels
and UAC written in big letters, but the level suffers from too large
rooms I think - this gives the level a kinda rough touch...
Nice light usage, but nothing amazing.
[ Texture design ] --------------------------------------------------
Some strange texture-combinations, but almost every texture is
well aligned. Some things are looking a bit rough, others are very
detailed.
[ Bugs ] ------------------------------------------------------------
No HOMs, Medusa effects or Tutti-Frutties. The author noticed a
HOM, but I was not able to comprehend it (a newer Doom version
suppresses the HOM effect I think). A strange bug appears in front
of the opened container, the silver wall in the background will be
cut. But most of you will not notice anything. :)
[ Enemies ] ---------------------------------------------------------
Too easy for a Doom 2 player, but the end can be a very shitty
trap - if you don't have enough ammo to kill the Cyberdemon and you
saved the game in that room, there is no way out, because the Cyber-
demon must die to enable a moving floor with the required key on it.
I don't think I missed anything, I just ran out of ammo. But all
other places are quite filled with enemies and no problem to
complete.
[ Things ] ----------------------------------------------------------
Enough ammo and health, could be some more other things.
[ Scoring ] ---------------------------------------------------------
70%
Worth downloading. It's an old level, but with a few very nice
ideas.
